A pesar de sus fallos narrativos, la serie logra mantenerse a flote gracias a la impresionante caracterización de Farrell y el trabajo de maquillaje a cargo de Mike Marino, quien transforma al actor en el desfigurado Oswald. Farrell, aunque apenas reconocible bajo capas de prótesis, logra transmitir la vulnerabilidad y el dolor de su personaje a través de sus expresivos ojos, lo que lo convierte en un villano trágico, pero no del todo innovador.
